How to wall mount TV

This step-by-step guide provides detailed information on how to complete a task.

It includes a list of tools and materials needed for the task.

Please be advised that this is only a guide and I cannot accept responsibility for any work undertaken. If you are not confident undertaking electrical work then you should have this work undertaken by a qualified electrician.

Tools and Materials

  • Someone to help lift the TV
  • TV wall mount bracket – make sure you have the appropriate wall mount for your VERA, TV size and weight. Most brackets are universal so just make sure right size for TV
  • Spirit level
  • Screwdriver
  • Impact driver with appropriate bits
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Appropriate screws and fixings for your wall and weight of TV. Do not use the supplied screws and fixings as they are cheap, rubbish and do not know what type of wall you have.
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil

Step by Step Guide

1

Find ideal TV placement

Choose a suitable location on the wall for your TV. Consider factors like viewing height, distance from seating, and avoiding glare from windows or lights. Then mark the top and centre.

2

Attach bracket to TV

Follow the instructions provided with your wall mount bracket to attach the bracket to the back of your TV. Its best to lay the TV screen down on something soft like the sofa to avoid the screen scratching.

Make sure it is securely fastened using a screw driver. Be careful when screwing as the screws maybe too long and damage the TV if over tightened. If screws are too long use the spacers that should be provide with TV wall mount bracket.

3

Mark the wall

  • First fit the wall mount part of the bracket to the parts you have just put on the TV in step 2. Then measure from the top of the TV to the first hole this will ensure you hang your TV to the desired height.
  • Hold the TV bracket against the wall in the desired location. Use a level on top of the bracket (get somebody to hold) to ensure it is straight. With the help of a pencil, mark the locations where you’ll be drilling holes for the wall mount.
4

Pilot holes and wall fixings

  • When complete you need to check that your marking’s locations are not horizontal or vertically to a plug socket as the cables maybe running behind the wall and you do want to drill through the cables. If you are horizontal or vertically to a plug socket you can unscrew the plug socket (please refer to my guide ‘How to change a plug socket to USB’ to do safely) to see which way the cables are running, if they run towards your holes you may need to not drill in that hole and use the other holes on the bracket or move the position of your TV.
  • Using an appropriate drill, drill pilot holes into the marked spots on the wall about 6-10cm deep, depending on weight of TV. If you are unsure about drilling into plasterboard or solid walls, please refer to my guides ‘How to hang on plasterboard’ or ‘How to hang on solid wall’.
  • Once your holes are drilled, check that the appropriate screws you are using will go all the way in by poking into the hole. Then insert your appropriate wall fixing for solid walls I like to put two wall plugs in each hole, cut one in necessary.
5

Attach the wall bracket

  • Place washer (should come with TV bracket) over the screws and using an impact drill to attach the wall mount bracket to the wall using the holes you have drilled. Only drill the screws in 90%.
  • Place the level back on the bracket with the help of someone to get completely level if you do not get level neither will your TV. Once level tighten the screws and check level when tight. Give the wall bracket a good pull to ensure it is secure.
6

Mount TV to wall bracket

  • After the wall mount is securely attached, with help get the TV as close as you can to and connect all the necessary cables (HDMI, power, etc.) to the TV. Consider using cable management solutions to hide the cables for a cleaner look. Or I do have a service to complete hide all wires.
  • Once cables are connected carefully lift the TV onto the wall bracket.
  • Ensure that the TV is level and properly mounted.
  • Confirm that all the connections are secure and that the TV is functioning correctly.
7

Double-Check Stability

Give the TV a gentle shake to ensure its securely attached to the wall. Check for any signs of instability or wobbling.
